SRM Team Robocon is the Robotics Team of SRM University, Chennai. We are involved in competitive robotics and also research and development in various aspects related to the field of robotics. We take part in the annually organized ABU Robocon – Asia’s biggest robotics contest which aims to promote friendship among like-minded youths who will be future leaders, as well as help advance engineering technologies.
SRM Team Robocon is a multidisciplinary team comprising individuals from different branches and different years but with one thing in common – a passion for technology and innovation. The participating engineers are ingenious and equipped with a diverse skill set and the technical, practical and management knowhow required to quench their thirst for innovation.
ABU Robocon is organized by the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union, it was started to 2002 and rose to being the biggest Robotics competition worldwide witnessing the participation of over 1500 teams worldwide..
Journey So Far
At the onset of 98th Indian Science Congress, a group of students who had won the Best Innovation title by DRDO formed SRM Team Robocon.
SRM Team Robocon successfully completed the problem statement of 2012 and was one amongst the only five teams which were able to do so.
We were one amongst the few teams to be able to integrate encoders in a cohesive form at Robocon 2013.
At Robocon 2014, the team completed the problem statement successfully and won the award for the Best Economical Robot.
Journey So Far
The team at Robocon 2015 finished 13th out of nearly 100 teams and received special mention for its robot by the organizers.
At Robocon 2016, we overcame many hurdles and presented the lightest bot weighing only 14.2kgs in the competition. Our pursuit of innovation led us to utilizing the latest technological advances hence becoming the maiden team to present the bots made of carbon fiber and nylon in Robocon India history and the only team with a completely 3D printed Eco bot in the competition. Our unique bot and its design grabbed many eyeballs and was lauded and appreciated by one and all.
